Study visit to NP Sutjeska (June 2017)

The mountaineering association "Vranica" from Fojnica organized a study visit to the National Park Sutjeska within the project "Building-up countryside destinations around Sarajevo to diversify rural economy".
Study visit is organized on 28th and 29th of June 2017.

NP Sutjeska is the most diverse complex of all ecosystems in BiH and one of the most diverse in the area of Southeast Europe. The entire area of the park is distinguished by the exceptional beauty and diversity of landscape shapes - from pitiful valleys, dense forest complexes, mountain pastures to high mountain massifs. On Zelengora there are eight glacier lakes, or "mountain eyes", and what also characterizes this area are the deep canyons of Sutjeska, Hrčavka and Jabučnica, clear mountain rivers rich in trout. It is a very valuable and rich pool of wild animals and rare plant species, many of which are endemic. In the very heart of the park there is also a strict natural reserve Perućica (1434 ha), the most well-preserved and the largest rainforest in Europe, in which, since establishment of a national park, is strictly forbidden any kind of human intervention.

Study visit is intended for service providers in rural tourism in BiH. The participants visited the Memorial Museum in Tjentište, as well as the nearby rural households.
Host families in rural households Fako, Čomor and Bešević were very kind and warmly welcomed our group. In the future, they would be happy to share experiences in this field in similar projects and gatherings.

Of the total of 17 participants, there were present members of the mountaineering association "Vranica", service providers from the rural area in the vicinity of Sarajevo, Ilijaš and Vareš, as well as representatives of the Association "Kreševski citrin" from Kreševo.

The project "Building-up rural tourism destinations around Sarajevo to diversify the rural economy" is supported by the EU Civil Society Program 2014-2015 with the aim of linking citizens and reducing unemployment through improving the cooperation of the main stakeholders at the local level and assessing the active population market.

The duration of the project is 3 years, and the municipalities covered with this project are Kreševo, Vareš, Ilijas, Fojnica, Sarajevo Center, Sarajevo Old Town, and East Old Town.
